It seems you can’t read the news lately without seeing an article about a family using CBD oil to help their epileptic child, or a scientific study showing an ever-growing list of benefits from CBD therapy.CBD Logo2

Maybe you’ve had friends or family members telling you about special strains of cannabis like “Charlotte’s Web” or “Cannatonic” – but you aren’t sure what to ask for at your local dispensary if these specific names aren’t in stock…

We know it can all be a blur – especially when you’re looking for relief from your symptoms, but don’t worry – we’ll break it down for you and explain everything you need to know about this amazingly versatile cannabis compound!

First off, we need to discuss the Endocannabinoid system in order to understand why CBD is so effective for so many issues.

Humans are born with the ability to process the chemicals found in cannabis, with receptors spread through every major part of the body. The compounds in marijuana like Delta-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), Cannabinol (CBN) and Cannabidiol (CBD) are naturally accepted by the body’s tissues – and processed on a cellular level by the receptors, activating various responses. This function is called the Endocannabinoid System – and it’s responsible for your appetite, mood, memory and for controlling pain.

Your endocrine, nervous, digestive and circulatory systems have extra concentrations of these receptors – allowing your body to accept higher concentrations of cannabis’ chemicals. Generally, higher numbers of CBD receptors are found in your peripheral nerves, brain and gastrointestinal tract – allowing the chemical to help those areas more effectively.

This is why you’ve heard so much about CBD therapy used for epilepsy – the chemical is able to prevent the electrical “cascade effect” that causes seizures – and since there is such a high concentration of CBD receptors found in brain tissue, it seems seizures are stopped, even before they start. Epileptic patients who previously suffered from up to 100 seizures a week have been living without pills – and without seizures – since starting CBD therapy.

The process isn’t fully understood by modern science yet, but researchers are close to an answer!

The benefits of CBD’s don’t end there – you may not know that this humble compound has several other surprising uses…CBD logo

Scientists have found that CBD therapy is effective for insomnia, since the one notable “side effect” from the compound tends to be a drowsy feeling. Indica strains that have a decent CBD level have been found to be several times more effective than prescription pills like Ambien or Trazodone – without the synthetic chemicals flooding your system! You’ll also find that your sleep lasts longer & you won’t wake up feeling groggy or hung-over.

Ever feel like you may have eaten too many handfuls of medicated goodies? Getting a little overwhelmed by a particularly heavy sativa strain like our Platinum Wreck?

Never fear – CBD is here! Sometimes called a “non-psychoactive” compound, Cannabidiol can actually level out the feeling from high THC intake, bringing a more relaxed and pleasant experience to the user.

In general, the effects of CBD are described as “chill” – you won’t necessarily feel “high” or “stoned” – but a feeling of overall well-being is the most common.

Crohn’s Disease – a condition that hits millions of people – is debilitating, embarrassing, painful and can be life-threatening in acute cases…but CBD therapy is stepping in to help!

An inflammatory disorder, Crohn’s is always fighting the body’s natural immune response in your digestive system. CBD’s have an extremely high level of anti-inflammatory ability, and scientists are finding that cannabis therapy is slowing or even reversing the damage from this disease. One big issue for Crohn’s patients is that the prescription drugs used to treat the disorder can be difficult to process, and most of the drugs are in the “anti-spasmodic” category – meaning they slow the body’s digestive process in order to calm the symptoms.

Cannabis simply works better, since THC and CBD work together in the digestive tract to calm spasms and heal the tissues at the same time – without the side effects of synthetic medications!

Are you staying heart-healthy? Heart disease claims tens of thousands of lives annually – still holding the top of the list for mortality rates across the globe. “Stress” is being noted more often by health professionals as the most debilitating condition for society – since it leads to so many problems like high blood pressure, high cortisol (stress hormone) levels and hypertension.

You may have been told by your doctor that you need to be on blood pressure medication or anti-anxiety drugs – so that you can prevent strokes or a heart attack…but why take more pills when cannabis can cover your concerns?

CBD’s work as a vasodilator – opening blood vessels and relaxing them, as well as lowering the pressure on the blood vessel walls. Studies also find that cannabis therapy reduces the risk of arterial obstructions – lowering the possibility of stroke and cardiac arrest events dramatically.

There’s so much more that CBD’s can do…and more major research is being done right now to unlock a broader range of benefits. There is even evidence that Cannabidiol can stop (or even cure) certain types of cancers – it shouldn’t be long before we know more!contact-us
